Jennette McCurdy is an actress, bestselling author and filmmaker who is best known for playing Sam Puckett on the Nickelodeon series iCarly and its spinoff Sam & Cat. iCarly aired from 2007 to 2012, while Sam & Cat ran from 2013 to 2014. In addition to her Nickelodeon success, Jennette appeared in several other television shows and briefly pursued a music career.
In 2017, Jennette decided to leave acting behind to pursue writing and directing. She later explained that the decision was shaped in part by the 2013 death of her mother, who had pushed her into acting as a child. In 2020, she wrote and performed the one-woman stage show I’m Glad My Mom Died, which later inspired her 2022 memoir of the same name. The book became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and earned widespread critical acclaim.
Jennette has since continued to focus on writing and producing. In 2025, Apple TV+ announced a series adaptation of I’m Glad My Mom Died, with Jennette serving as co-writer, co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Ari Katcher. Jennifer Aniston is set to star in the series. Jennette also released her debut novel, Half His Age, in January 2026.
