After Son&#8217;s Death"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Six weeks after the death of her son, Beckett, Melissa Etheridge put on a brave face to support the LGBTQ+ community during the virtual &#8216;Can&#8217;t Cancel Pride&#8217; event.<\/h3>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-1\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-2\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/tag\/melissa-etheridge\/\"  ><strong>Melissa Etheridge<\/strong><\/a> is still mourning <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2020\/05\/13\/melissa-etheridge-son-beckett-cypher-dead\/\"  >the death<\/a> of her 21-year-old son,\u00a0<strong>Beckett Cypher<\/strong>. However, that did not stop her from lending her support to the LGBTQ+ community during <em>Can&#8217;t Cancel Pride: A COVID-19 Relief Benefit For The LGBTQ+ Community.<\/em> Melissa performed during the at-home special. She sang her 1993 classic &#8220;Come to My Window&#8221;<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>for the event, which aired on iHeartRadio&#8217;s Facebook and Instagram pages. &#8220;You can&#8217;t cancel pride. Featured on her album\u00a0<em>Yes I Am<\/em>, the tune nabbed the Kansas native a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Her emotion could be felt through her incredible raw performance, which comes just over a month after the tragic death of her son. &#8220;Thank you all so much. Be strong, spread peace, only love,&#8221; she concluded.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">Melissa publicly came out as a lesbian in 1993, and has since been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Of course, she was the perfect artist to perform at the\u00a0<em>Can&#8217;t Cancel Pride<\/em> event. Other performers included\u00a0<strong>Adam Lambert, Ricky Martin, Sia, Katy Perry<\/strong> and more. The event was held to &#8220;raise visibility and funds for LGBTQ+ communities most impacted by COVID-19.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">June is Pride Month, but unfortunately, celebrations had to be halted in 2020 due to the coronavirus. <em>Can&#8217;t Cancel Pride<\/em> made sure that Pride would still be celebrated and recognized, despite all the cancellations this year. During the special, viewers were encouraged to <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.gcfdn.org\/pride\"  rel=\"nofollow\"  target=\"_blank\"  >donate money<\/a> that would benefit six different LGBTQ+ organizations.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\">Melissa&#8217;s appearance during this special comes amidst a very difficult time in her life. The 59-year-old&#8217;s son, Beckett, 21, who she <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/who-is-julie-cypher-4060656\/\"  >shares with ex<\/a>, <strong>Julie Cypher<\/strong>, died from an <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2020\/05\/13\/melissa-etheridge-statement-son-beckett-cypher-cause-of-death\/\"  >opioid addiction<\/a> on May 13. &#8220;Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction,&#8221; Melissa announced on social media after Beckett&#8217;s death. &#8220;My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4112437\" src=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/melissa-etheridge-son-beckett-cant-cancel-pride-performance-embed.jpg?resize=620%2C826\" alt=\"melissa etheridge beckett cypher\" width=\"620\" height=\"826\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-11\">She concluded her message by admitting that her &#8220;heart [was] broken&#8221;
