The clip was taken from Britney: For the Record<\/em>, MTV\u2019s intimate behind the scenes look at Britney Spears<\/strong><\/a> and her relationship with her dad and conservator, Jamie Spears<\/strong>. \u201cIf I wasn\u2019t under the restraints that I\u2019m under right now \u2013 you know, with all the lawyers and doctors and people analyzing me every day and all that kind of stuff \u2013 like, if that wasn\u2019t there, I\u2019d feel so liberated and feel like myself,\u201d the star said.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I tell them the way I feel, it\u2019s like they hear me but [they\u2019re] really not listening. They\u2019re hearing what they want to hear. They\u2019re not really listening to what I\u2019m telling them. It\u2019s like, it\u2019s bad. And I\u2019m sad.\u201d<\/p>\n Framing Britney Spears<\/em> also shared another moment from the MTV doc, which featured Britney mimicking her dad, saying, \u201cShe don\u2019t listen to me. I scream at her and she gets on me about screaming at her, but I can\u2019t do it and you\u2019re just gonna have to talk some [expletive] sense into her.\u201d<\/p>\n People can be heard laughing in the background but, in the years since the show aired, Britney\u2019s relationship with her dad and the battle over the conservatorship have morphed into a tense, ongoing court battle<\/a>.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a controversy that\u2019s explored in full in the FX documentary, which takes a look at the movement to free the mom-of-two of the legal constraints that have been in place ever since her father was granted conservatorship over her and her now $60 million fortune.<\/p>\n Jamie, 68, first obtained temporary \u2013 and then permanent \u2013 rights over his daughter\u2019s personal and financial affairs in 2008, shortly after she was placed on a 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold. The \u201cunique legal arrangement\u201d is \u201cusually designed for elderly people who are unable to take care of themselves or their money,\u201d Liz Day<\/strong> of The New York Times<\/em> said in the documentary.<\/p>\n The senior editor also noted that the move was \u201cunusual because Britney is so young and productive,\u201d calling it \u201csurprising in that Jamie wasn\u2019t a huge figure in her life before this.\u201d<\/p>\n Even back then the singer told a lawyer that she didn\u2019t want her father to have legal control over her life. Adam Streisand<\/strong>, who specializes in conservatorships and battles over estates, said in the documentary that Britney made her feelings clear during a 2008 meeting at the Beverly Hills Hotel. \u201cShe wanted a professional. Somebody independent,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cBritney did not want her father<\/a> to be the conservator of her person. The person who makes decisions about her medical care and treatment and so on and so forth. She also didn\u2019t want him controlling her finances.\u201d<\/p>\n More than 12 years later, Britney\u2019s failed attempts to remove her dad as the legal guardian over her personal and professional life continue.
