During the chat, Wayne, 38, spoke honestly on<a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2018\/09\/14\/lil-wayne-suicide-attempt-gunshot-interview\/\"  > surviving a suicide attempt<\/a> at age 12. After getting in trouble after his mother learned he was skipping class and worried that she wasn\u2019t going to allow him to rap anymore &#8212; \u201c\u2018She about to take that rap folder, she about to throw that sh-t away,\u2019\u201d Wayne remembered his aunt telling him \u2013 Wayne\u2019s main thought was he \u201cgonna show\u201d her.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">&#8220;I picked up the phone, I called the police,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Yes, I knew where she put her gun, and it was in her bedroom. And so I went in her bedroom and grabbed the gun. I already made the phone call, looked in the mirror.\u201d Wayne said he held the gun to his head but pulled it away. \u201cGot a little too scared, that was my head. &#8230; but I said \u2018f-ck, it.\u2019 <strong>Biggie <\/strong>was on. I\u2019m looking in the mirror so you could look through the mirror, and the television was behind me. So, I was watching the video through the mirror. \u2018One More Chance\u2019 was on. And Biggie was already gone or something. So, I was looking, I was like, \u2018You know what?&#8217; Start thinking I had to get myself mad and noticed that I didn&#8217;t have to. That&#8217;s what scared me.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4497645\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4497645\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4497645\" src=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/lil-wayne-suicide-attempt-12-embed1.jpg?resize=620%2C413\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4497645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outside Lands Festival 2019 (Greg Chow\/Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">Wayne said he shot himself in the chest \u2013 \u201cDidn\u2019t feel it. Aimed for my heart and didn\u2019t feel a thing, though\u201d \u2013 and woke up to the sound of the police knocking on his door. Wayne took this as a sign for him to fight for his life, and he pushed him across the wooden floor and used the last ounce of energy he had left to kick at the door. \u201cI started hearing them go crazy. Like, \u2018someone\u2019s in there, someone\u2019s in there.\u2019\u201d The cops rushed Wayne to the hospital, where he recovered.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">The rapper reflected on what drove him to take such a drastic move, and Wayne thinks the lack of openness and communication in his home led to the suicide attempt. &#8220;You have no one to vent to, no one to get this out to,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You can&#8217;t bring it to your friends at school &#8212; You&#8217;re still trying to be cool to them. You&#8217;re not trying to let them know you&#8217;ve got something going on at home.\u201d Wayne also said the experience transformed his mother. \u201cThe mom that I knew before that day, on my life and everyone&#8217;s life, I have never met or seen or heard that lady again in my life. So I didn&#8217;t die that day, but somebody was gone. But, when he referenced the shooting in songs like 2015\u2019s \u201cLondon Roads\u201d and on <strong>Solange<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cMad\u201d (&#8220;And when I attempted suicide, I didn&#8217;t die \/ I remember how mad I was on that day, Man, you gotta let it go before it get up in the way. Let it go, let it go\u201d), the story seemed to change.
