The fantasy series, based on the bestselling book series of the same name, returning for the first part of season 3 on June 29. <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/tag\/henry-cavill\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  ><strong>Henry Cavill<\/strong><\/a> is back for one last ride as Geralt of Rivia. The second official trailer for Part 2 of season 3 alluded to Henry&#8217;s exit. In the final moments o the trailer, Geralt can be seen floating in the water with blood surrounding him. &#8220;There&#8217;s no coming back from this,&#8221; Geralt says.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">The <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=81xQJEIjKi0\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  >official season 3 trailer<\/a> was released on June 8, featuring new footage of Geralt trying to protect his family. Three months before <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/the-witcher-season-2-updates-henry-cavill-news-4282101\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  >season 2<\/a> premiered in December 2021, the series was renewed for a third season. The spinoff, <em>The Witcher: Blood Origin,<\/em> premiered in December 2022.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\">Fans are so excited for\u00a0more of\u00a0<em>The Witcher<\/em>. <strong>HollywoodLife<\/strong> has rounded up everything we know so far about season 3 of <em>The Witcher<\/em>, including the release date, the cast and crew, and more.<\/p>\n<h2>When Will <em>The Witcher<\/em> Season 3 Come Out?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\"><em>The Witcher <\/em>season 3 premiered June 29 on Netflix. Similar to <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/tag\/you\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  ><em>You<\/em><\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/tag\/stranger-things\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  ><em>Stranger Things<\/em><\/a>, <em>The Witcher<\/em> season 3 will be split into two parts. Volume 1, which will include the first 5 episodes, dropped on June 29. Volume 2, consisting of the final 3 episodes, will drop on July 27.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">Netflix officially announced season 3 back in September 2021, but pre-production didn&#8217;t begin until January 2022, according to <em><a  href=\"https:\/\/redanianintelligence.com\/2022\/01\/06\/the-witcher-season-3-to-start-filming-in-march-2022\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener nofollow\"  >Redanian Intelligence<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 Season 2 filming was interrupted several times due to the <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/celebrities-with-coronavirus-disease-3966010\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  >COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>, as well as Henry&#8217;s <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/the-witcher-season-2-updates-henry-cavill-news-4282101\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  >on-set injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4651375\" src=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/the-witcher-season-3-release-netflix-embed1.jpg?w=620&#038;resize=620%2C413\" alt=\"Henry Cavill\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><em>The Witcher<\/em> Season 3 Cast<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\"><em>The Witcher\u00a0<\/em>season 3 will continue the story of Geralt of Rivia, with <strong>Henry Cavill<\/strong> taking his final bow as the character. In October 2022, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/tudum\/articles\/the-witcher-season-4-liam-hemsworth\"  rel=\"nofollow\"  target=\"_blank\"  >Netflix<\/a> announced that <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/liam-hemsworth\"  ><strong>Liam Hemsworth<\/strong><\/a> would be taking over for Henry as Geralt in season 4.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-11\">&#8220;My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4,&#8221; Henry said in a statement. &#8220;In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam&#8217;s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-12\">Liam released his own statement as well: &#8220;As a Witcher fan I\u2019m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I\u2019m honoured that he\u2019s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf\u2019s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I\u2019ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. It\u2019s so wonderful to be here. But I\u2019m going to talk about what it was like filming my final season,&#8221; Henry said on stage to fans.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-15\">He continued, &#8220;And I actually just want to talk about my co-stars here. Because, once again, it was such a pleasure and an honor to be working with you guys. You guys bring so much nuance and detail to these characters which are often at risk of being oversimplified, and what you guys have done with the characters has involved work, care, and effort. And, believe me, working with you guys was the biggest pleasure. So, uh, I just wanted to say I\u2019m going to miss you. I\u2019m going to miss you very much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>What Will<em> The Witcher<\/em> Season 3 Be About?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-16\">The new season 3 clip began with Ciri being cornered by Rience and his goons. She starts to fight them off. Yennefer arrives to help as do Geralt and Jaskier. A fierce and brutal fight scene ensues.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-17\">The official synopsis for season 3 reads: &#8220;As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri\u2019s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl\u2019s untapped powers; instead, they discover they\u2019ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line \u2013 or risk losing each other forever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-18\">Season 2 ended with the shocking reveal that Ciri&#8217;s father Duny is actually the White Flame, the current emperor of Nilfgaard. The father-daughter dynamic will definitely be explored in season 3. (Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-19\">In the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EUlC8ue8NFI\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  >first teaser<\/a> for season 3, released in April, Geralt says that &#8220;for the first time, I understand real fear.&#8221; He draws his sword and protects Ciri.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-20\">In the official trailer, Geralt declares that he &#8220;won&#8217;t abandon&#8221; Ciri. They go into hiding with Yennefer but face new threats. There&#8217;s sight of a terrifying creature guarding a dark labyrinth. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich previously teased to <em><a  href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/the-witcher-season-3-status-scripts-written-showrunner-comments\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  >Collider<\/a> <\/em>that season 3 will mostly take source material from both\u00a0<em>Blood of Elves<\/em> and the fourth book,\u00a0<em>The Time of Contempt<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-22\">&#8220;We approximately do a book a season, but we also make sure that the stories from that book are best in that season of our television show,&#8221; she told the outlet in Dec. 2021. &#8220;So sometimes we move those chess pieces around a little bit.
