Here are five things to know about Robert Glasper, a renowned jazz pianist with hip hop flair set to perform at the Oscars with drummer Travis Barker and singer Sheila E.<\/h3>\n

In addition to performances of Oscar-nominated songs,<\/a> the 2022 Academy Awards<\/a> will have another musical treat underlining the telecast: an all-star band featuring pianist Robert Glasper<\/strong> along with headline-making<\/a> drummer Travis Barker<\/strong><\/a>, legendary lead singer Sheila E.<\/strong><\/a>, and musical director\u00a0Adam Blackstone<\/strong>. Born April 6, 1978 in Houston, Texas, Robert was influenced by his mother,\u00a0Kim Yvette Glasper\u00a0<\/strong>who was a professional jazz and blues singer. In addition to going with his mom to numerous club performances, he was also raised in the church and performed there often. After attending Houston’s High School for the Performing Arts, his playing career really took off while he was studying at the New School in New York City. Robert began touring with great jazz artists in the field and also became involved in the growing neo soul movement, associating with artists like\u00a0Jill Scott<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0The Roots<\/strong><\/a>, ultimately teaming up with\u00a0Yasiin Bey<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(formerly\u00a0Mos Def<\/strong>) to work as his musical director.<\/p>\n
