Get to know more about the award show\u2019s host.<\/h3>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-1\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jerrod Carmichael will host the Golden Globes on Jan. 10, 2023, on NBC.<\/li>\n<li>Jerrod is a comedian who hosted <em>Saturday Night Live <\/em>for the first time in April 2022.<\/li>\n<li>The 2023 Golden Globes mark a return to television after NBC refused to air them in 2022 due to the HFPA&#8217;s lack of diversity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-2\">One year after NBC opted not to air the <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/tag\/golden-globe-awards\/\"  >Golden Globes<\/a> due to a <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2021-02-21\/hfpa-golden-globes-2021-who-are-the-members\"  rel=\"nofollow\"  target=\"_blank\"  ><em>Los Angeles Times <\/em><\/a>report detailing issues within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Globes will return to broadcast television \u2013 with <strong>Jerrod Carmichael <\/strong>as the host. &#8220;We&#8217;re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards,&#8221; said <strong>Helen Hoehne<\/strong>, the HFPA president, in a statement obtained by <a  href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/comedian-jerrod-carmichael-to-host-the-2023-golden-globe-awards\"  target=\"_blank\"  >PEOPLE<\/a>. &#8220;His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live. NBC&#8217;s decision not to air the program was a response to the <em>Times <\/em>report that claimed there were no Black journalists among the HFPA&#8217;s members amid other ethical issues.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">Though the HFPA vowed to implement reforms, the 2023 event will likely be mired in one of the HFPA&#8217;s biggest controversies. <strong><a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/tag\/brendan-fraser\/\"  >Brendan Fraser<\/a><\/strong>, who has been <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2022\/09\/05\/brendan-fraser-cries-standing-ovation-the-whale-venice-film-festival-video\/\"  >getting Best Actor buzz<\/a> for his performance in Darren Aronofsky&#8217;s <em>The Whale<\/em>, accused former HFPA president\u00a0<strong>Philip Berk of <\/strong>sexually assaulting him in 2003. With Brendan <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2022\/11\/16\/brendan-fraser-not-attending-golden-globes-sexual-assault-allegations\/\"  >vowing not to attend the Golden Globes<\/a>, even if he&#8217;s nominated, his absence will be an awkwardness that the HFPA \u2013 and host Jerrod Carmichael \u2013 will have to reconcile.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3m3zW-OB7mk?version=3&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">Jerrod opened up about being called and asked to host the big award show, in a Jan. 2023 interview on <em>The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/em>, which can be seen above. &#8220;I was very very excited,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I remember getting the call. I was at home, I live in New York.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\">&#8220;They&#8217;re like, &#8216;Do you want to host the Golden Globes?&#8217; and I said, &#8216;Yes,&#8217; I was very very excited to host,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And then I remembered that I&#8217;d have to be working with my arch nemesis, NBC marketing. &#8220;Oh how I hate NBC marketing, you guys don&#8217;t know,&#8221; he added to many laughs. &#8220;They&#8217;re both lazy and pushy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">He went on to explain they had no marketing materials ready for the Globes when they asked him to host, but eventually sent him a billboard with an old photo of him smiling and a tagline that said, &#8220;Changin&#8217; it up.&#8221; He told them it was &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; and went on to ask them for a newer photo of himself and joked to put &#8220;A night of devastation&#8221; as the tagline instead. His family did not have a lot of money while he was growing up. Jerrod graduated from Robert B. Glenn High School in 2005. Once he turned 20, Jerrod moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a stand-up comedian.<\/p>\n<h2>His Career Started With Open-Mic Nights<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-11\">Like many comedians, Jerrod started off doing open-mic nights. He typically performed at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood. Eventually, Jerrod made a name for himself and got noticed by the higher-ups in Hollywood. He co-created, co-wrote, produced, and starred in the project, which aired on NBC for three seasons from 2015 to 2017.
