Gabriel stars as Sammy Fabelman in <em>The Fabelmans<\/em>.<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">Gabriel beat out 2,000 actors who submitted tapes for Sammy Fabelman, <em>The Fabelmans<\/em> casting director <strong>Cindy Tolan<\/strong> told <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2022\/10\/gabriel-labelle-steven-spielberg-the-fabelmans.html\"  rel=\"nofollow\"  target=\"_blank\"  ><em>Vulture<\/em><\/a>. Gabriel and Steven got to know each other through a series of Zoom conversations before filming started. &#8220;I left it to him to decide how much he wanted to be like me,\u201d Spielberg told the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2022-11-21\/gabriel-labelle-on-playing-young-spielberg-in-the-fabelmans\"  rel=\"nofollow\"  target=\"_blank\"  ><em>Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a>. \u201cHe has such natural ease [and is] so at home in his own skin and you never catch him acting \u2014 or in this case, trying to impersonate me. Gabriel&#8217;s first role was in 2013.<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">His first onscreen role was in the TV series <em>Motive<\/em> in 2013. He also appeared in<em> iZombie<\/em>, <em>Brand New Cherry Flavor<\/em>, and the 2018 film <em>The Predator<\/em>. Gabriel&#8217;s most recent role was in the Showtime series <em>American Gigolo<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Gabriel is from Canada.<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\">Gabriel grew up in Vancouver. Despite growing up in different generations, Gabriel found that he could relate to Spielberg.\u00a0\u201cThere are a lot of similarities I could understand,\u201d the actor told the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019re both Jewish; we\u2019re both kids of divorce; we both love films. Throughout the film, Sammy is going through a lot of firsts that I\u2019m not so far ahead of. The perspective change of seeing your parents as people for the first time \u2014 that\u2019s something I was new to as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>4.
