The upcoming star-studded spy thriller Argylle<\/i> movie has stirred up more mystery than its plot. The film stars Bryce Dallas Howard<\/b><\/a>, Henry Cavill<\/b><\/a>, Bryan Cranston<\/b><\/a>, Sam Rockwell<\/b>, Dua Lipa<\/b><\/a>, Catherine O\u2019Hara<\/b><\/a>, Ariana De Bose<\/b><\/a>, John Cena<\/b><\/a>, Samuel L. Jackson<\/b><\/a> and more. Although the screenplay was written by Jason Fuchs<\/b>, it\u2019s apparently inspired by the book of the same name, written by Elly Conway<\/b> \u2014 whose name appears as Bryce\u2019s character in the film. The only problem is that no one knows who Elly is.<\/p>\n

Thanks to her mysterious persona, fans have speculated whether she is actually Taylor Swift<\/strong> <\/a>using a pseudonym and is the brains behind the story. Bryce also opened up about the theory, revealing how\u00a0Argylle\u00a0<\/em>director\u00a0Matthew Vaughn’s\u00a0<\/b><\/strong>daughter reacted to the theory in an interview on\u00a0The View\u00a0<\/em>on Wednesday, January 31.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Did Taylor Swift Write \u2018Argylle\u2019?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

According to the film\u2019s cast and crew, no \u2014 Taylor did not write the book nor the movie. Argylle<\/i> was published earlier this year, whereas the film is set to hit theaters in February 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bryce addressed the fan theory during an appearance on\u00a0The View\u00a0<\/em><\/a>on Wednesday, January 31. She explained that she understood why it was a theory, but assured fans that she was not involved in the book. “That is a great fan example of how amazing fans can be when there’s a lot of enthusiasm,” she said. “Taylor Swift is an icon and works very, very, very hard on all the things she creates, and we would never want to take credit for anything she wasn’t a part of. So yes, Taylor Swift did not write\u00a0Argylle,\u00a0<\/em>but none of us really has a full understanding of the mystery around Elly Conway.”<\/p>\n

Despite putting the rumors to rest, Bryce did reveal that the film’s director had a hilarious interaction with his daughter when she learned of the theory. “His daughter heard about this theory about Taylor Swift and rushed into his room and was like, ‘Why did you not tell me that Taylor Swift wrote\u00a0Argylle,\u00a0<\/em>Dad? You should at least be able to trust me,'” she said.<\/p>\n

Director Matthew Vaughn spoke with Variety<\/i><\/a> at the London film premiere of Argylle<\/i> and noted that the pop star is not the actual mastermind behind the plot. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not Taylor Swift, but books do not write themselves,\u201d the filmmaker noted, adding, \u201cI wish they did. I wish screenplays wrote themselves. I wish movies directed themselves. There is [an] Elly Conway. I am begging Elly Conway to come out of the shadows because this Taylor Swift thing freaked me out. And it\u2019s going to happen. \u2026 There is a real book, and it\u2019s a really good real book.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even Argylle<\/i> star Bryan Cranston was approached about the Taylor Swift rumors. While the Breaking Bad<\/i> alum praised the recording artist, he pointed out that Elly is \u201cvery real.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very real. I can\u2019t confirm or deny the rumors about Ms. Swift,\u201d Bryan said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t put it past her, she\u2019s certainly capable of writing a novel or several novels. But I really shouldn\u2019t say any more.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight<\/i><\/a> that week, John Cena pointed out that both Argylle<\/i> and Taylor benefitted from the social media rumors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt speaks volumes of how influential she can be and, of course, it’s great for people to be aware of our film,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cWe want people to see Argylle<\/i> ’cause it’s entertaining, and if Taylor Swift and her fanbase can be a vocal voice for us \u2026 It’s a movie about being a spy \u2014 you know, the greater the spy the bigger the lie \u2014 so, to start off a marketing campaign or a push for awareness with some misdirection and deception, it couldn’t be a better movie it happened to.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
