Although she\u2019s the daughter of the highly successful <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/don-johnson\/\"  ><b>Don Johnson<\/b><\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/melanie-griffith\/\"  ><b>Melanie Griffith<\/b><\/a>, the <i><a  href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/madame-web-marvel-4996082\/\"  >Madame Web<\/a> <\/i>star paved her own path in the industry. That&#39;s just, like, lame.&quot; <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/59IVHKWZmH\"  rel=\"nofollow\"  target=\"_blank\"  >pic.twitter.com\/59IVHKWZmH<\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">&mdash; TODAY (@TODAYshow) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TODAYshow\/status\/1755266540784455812?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\"  target=\"_blank\"  >February 7, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Don Johnson<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">The Hollywood Walk of Fame member is famous for his role in <i>Miami Vice<\/i> in addition to the films<i> Machete, Django Unchained<\/i> and <i>Knives Out.<\/i> The actor is a veteran in the industry but is also a talented producer and singer, having released the albums <i>Heartbeat<\/i> and <i>Let It Roll<\/i>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">While he shares Dakota with his ex wife Melanie, he is also a dad to his kids, Jesse Wayne Johnson, Atherton Grace Johnson, Jasper Breckinridge Johnson and Deacon James Johnson, all of whom he shares with his current wife, <strong>Kelley Phlegler<\/strong>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\">As a dad to several children, Don has opened up about his parenting style, which Dakota has acknowledged. Since the <i>Fifty Shades<\/i> trilogy star was the only one who went on to be a famous actress, Don explained during a 2021 interview on <i>Late Night With Seth Meyers<\/i> that he did not help Dakota whatsoever in funding her acting career.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">\u201cWe have a rule in the family that if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll,&#8221; Don pointed out. &#8220;And towards the end of high school, I went to her and I said, &#8216;Um, so, do you want to go visit some colleges or something like that?&#8217; And she went, &#8216;Oh, no, I&#8217;m not going to college.&#8217; And I went, &#8216;OK. Well, you know what that means. I mean, you won&#8217;t be on the payroll anymore, and how are you gonna manage?&#8217; And she says, &#8216;Don&#8217;t you worry about it.\u2019\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5253585\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5253585\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5253585 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dakota-johnson-parents-featured-1.jpg?resize=800%2C500\" alt=\"Melanie Griffith, Dakota Johnson and Don Johnson \" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5253585\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Krista Kennell\/Variety\/Penske Media via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-11\">During a subsequent interview on <i>TODAY<\/i> in 2024, Dakota nodded to her dad\u2019s \u201cpayroll\u201d parenting idea and stated that Don \u201ccut [her] off\u201d the moment she revealed she wanted to break into film.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-12\">&#8220;He said if you go to college, you still get an allowance,\u201d she noted. \u201cAnd I was like, &#8216;Well, I&#8217;m going to be an actress.&#8217; So he was like, &#8216;Alright, well you&#8217;re on your own. I was cut off. I definitely like had moments where I couldn&#8217;t afford groceries and things like that and needed to ask my mom to help me. She was the nice one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-13\">Despite his strict parenting method, Don has remained close with Dakota and has attended the premieres of her films. Nevertheless, neither he nor Melanie has watched the <i>Fifty Shades<\/i> franchise.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-14\">\u201cI would never see that,\u201d the<i> Nash Bridges <\/i>alum told <a  href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/don-johnson-never-watch-dakota-fifty-shades\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\"  ><i>PEOPLE<\/i><\/a> in 2018. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t see that even if she wasn\u2019t in it. It\u2019s not my kind of thing. As a father, there are certain images that you don\u2019t need in your head. I know it\u2019s just, pretend and make believe, but, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-15\">During the same interview, Don recalled Dakota\u2019s revelation to him that she was skipping college and going to be an actress, to which he replied, \u201cWell, that\u2019s very interesting because I\u2019ve never seen you take an acting class. I\u2019ve never seen you do a play. \u2026 \u201cLittle did I know, Dakota was in the background watching mom and dad all those years. She was learning her craft. And I\u2019ll be damned if she didn\u2019t learn it, maybe even better than mom and dad. She\u2019s extraordinary.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Melanie Griffith<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-16\">Melanie is a Golden Globe Award winner and has starred in hit movies such as<em> Pacific Heights<\/em> and <em>Mulholland Falls, <\/em>and landed minor co-starring roles on television, including in her ex-husband&#8217;s show <em>Miami Vice<\/em>. She began her career as a child model. As the daughter of famous actress <strong>Tippi Hedren<\/strong>, Melanie got her start in the acting industry by watching her mom. Melanie even co-starred with Tippi in <em>Roar<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-17\">Dakota gave fans insight into her mother and grandmother&#8217;s prolific careers during her 2022 interview with<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/2022\/06\/dakota-johnson-persuasion-cover\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener nofollow\"  > <em>Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a>. In it, the <em>How to Be Single<\/em> star pointed out that <strong>Alfred Hitchcock<\/strong> derailed Tippi&#8217;s career after she worked with him on his infamous horror <em>The Birds<\/em>.
