Vance<\/strong><\/a> has continued to have the support of his wife, Usha Vance<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a>, throughout his time in the White House during Donald Trump<\/a><\/strong>‘s administration.\u00a0Serving as Vice President and Second Lady, JD and Usha have become familiar figures in Washington, with Usha appearing alongside her husband at major events<\/a>. In July 2026, the couple also welcomed their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance<\/strong><\/a>, marking the first time in more than 150 years that a sitting U.S. vice president has welcomed a child while in office.<\/p>\n

One of Usha\u2019s most widely discussed moments came during the 2024 election cycle, when she addressed a controversial 2021 Fox News comment made by her husband about \u201cchildless cat ladies\u201d that resurfaced during the race. In a 2024 Fox News interview, Usha said she revisited the remarks to understand their context, explaining that JD was trying to underscore how difficult parenting can be in the United States and how policy decisions can make it even harder. “Because what he was really saying is that it can be really hard to be a parent in this country. And sometimes our policies are designed in a way that makes it even harder.”<\/p>\n

Per NPR<\/a>, the following is JD’s full comment from his 2021 interview: “We’re effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made. And so, they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too. And it’s just a basic fact. You look at Kamala Harris<\/strong><\/a>, Pete Buttigieg<\/strong><\/a>, [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/strong><\/a>]. The entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it? I just wanted to ask that question and propose that maybe if we want a healthy ruling class in this country, we should invest more, we should vote more. We should support more people who actually have kids, because those are the people who ultimately have a more direct stake in the future of this country.”<\/p>\n
