Paddy Power's "PELEPOWER" flops after it angers Viagra legend Pelé

The Brazilian football hero sees red over the bookie's advertising campaign

Paddy Power have gotten themselves into a bit of a pickle with Brazilian footie legend Pelé.


The Samba Boy wasn't happy after the their PR genies changed the name of some of their shops to "PELEPOWER’ ahead of the World Cup.


The famous face of Viagra unleashed an army of solicitors on the famous bookies, demanding the removal of the shop signs.


However the bookies got one up on the legend and have rebranded the shop signs "as Gaeilge", cleverly opting for "PEILE", the Irish word for football, in case you were asleep for that Irish lesson!

A rep for for Paddy Power said: “All we wanted to do was get our customers up for the World Cup and we thought who better to do it than Viagra’s chief ambassador but unfortunately the joke flopped.

"PEILEPOWER is a celebration of both football and the Irish language and we hope this tongue in cheek rebranding initiative will keep our punters excited."
