Bacon will be crispy with less grease by adding one €0.57 ingredient

A home cook has shared a simple flour trick to help make your bacon crispier and less greasy - and the secret ingredient costs just 45p

Many of us have strong preferences when it comes to our bacon — with crispy being a particularly sought-after texture at breakfast. If that sounds like you, one home cook insists she's found a "hack" that guarantees your rashers turn out "perfect" with "zero mess" every single time.

Casey Davis shared her technique on TikTok, revealing that you'll need just one extra 45p ingredient to recreate her results. She started her video by laying several streaky rashers onto tin foil, destined for the oven — not the frying pan.

Casey then unveiled her secret weapon — plain flour — which she lightly and evenly dusted over the bacon.

With her oven preheated to 190°C (375°F), Casey stressed the importance of positioning the rashers so they don't overlap or sit too close together on the tray. "Bake for 17-20 minutes, or until the bacon reaches your desired crispiness," she instructed.

Casey's finishing touch? "Carefully remove from the oven and transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess grease," she explained, before showing off the bacon's impressively crispy crunch to demonstrate the method delivers results.

She added: "Flour is your best friend! Enjoy perfectly crispy bacon every time!".

While it might appear an odd addition to your morning fry-up, it's actually quite a traditional approach — and there's real science backing it up!

The flour absorbs some of the bacon's surface moisture and fat while cooking, helping to achieve a crispier finish, while creating a thin, crunchy layer on each rasher that makes every mouthful wonderfully crispy.

What's more, the coating can help promote more even browning by providing a consistent surface for the bacon to cook against.

If you're keen to take things a step further, you can even try adding seasoning to the flour. Obviously, bacon is already fairly salty, so you won't need that.

However, a touch of paprika or a few grinds of black pepper can make the rashers taste even better.

Casey's brief video has racked up more than 700 likes since being posted — and viewers seemed grateful for the advice. One of her followers responded: "I need this!".

It's not the only bacon hack to capture attention in recent months.

Previously, further bacon wisdom came from the unlikely source of rapper Snoop Dogg, who suggested you can make your bacon taste significantly better if you do one simple thing before putting it in the pan.

Instead of splitting the bacon into individual slices and frying in a pan as most people would do, he recommends chucking all of it in to cook in one solid piece.
