Fried eggs taste so much better if you add 1 ingredient to the pan before cooking

Fried eggs are a classic breakfast dish, but adding a simple ingredient can make them taste even better. If you're looking to spice things up, there's one kitchen cupboard staple that could take your fried egg recipe to the next level

Eggs have long been a beloved breakfast staple, not just throughout the UK but across the globe. With endless methods to prepare and savour them, there's always a thrilling new flavour or topping pairing to discover.

Scrambled, poached and boiled eggs are all delightful, but nothing quite compares to a flawlessly cooked fried egg with a golden yolk. If you're keen to take things up a notch, there's one kitchen essential you should add to the pan before you begin cooking.

The culinary experts at Sift and Simmer suggest adding sesame seeds to your fried eggs for a satisfying crunch and a deep, nutty flavour.

The seeds, which feature prominently throughout Asian cuisine, provide fried eggs with a wonderfully crispy base. Combine them with some chilli oil and you'll introduce even greater depth of flavour, producing a brilliant alternative to your standard breakfast or lunch plate.

You'll only require a handful of cupboard staples for this recipe. As for the sesame seeds, either white or black varieties work superbly, or a combination of both is equally excellent, reports the Mirror.

These eggs aren't merely a breakfast delight either - they'd work just as well served atop a rice or noodle dish for your evening meal. Here's how to prepare them yourself, reports the Express.

Sesame fried eggs

Ingredients

  • Two tablespoons sesame seeds
  • One teaspoon vegetable oil
  • Two large eggs
  • Chilli oil (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Method

Place a frying pan over a low-medium heat. Add the sesame seeds and toast for approximately 30 seconds, then pour the vegetable oil over them. Crack the eggs over the sesame seeds and place a lid on the pan, leaving a small gap for steam to escape.

Let the eggs cook for roughly four to five minutes, or until they reach your desired consistency.

Once ready, use a spatula to carefully lift the eggs from the frying pan. Transfer them onto a plate and serve topped with extra sesame seeds or chilli oil, seasoned with salt and pepper to taste.
