Luas.ie website down as hackers breach security and demand bitcoin ransom
Services are running as normal - but Luas users won't be able to use the website
The Luas website is down after an apparent hacking took place.
When users logged onto the website this morning they were greeted with a threatening message from the hackers, demanding a bitcoin ransom.
It reads: "You are hacked. Some time ago I wrote that you have serious security holes, you didn't reply, the next time someone talks to you, press the reply button."
The hackers then asks for a payment of one bitcoin, Dublin Live reports.
It says: "You must pay one bitcoin in five days, otherwise I will publish all data and send emails to your users."
A Luas spokesperson confirmed that their website is down this morning and they are working to repair it.
The spokesperson said: "The Luas website is down at the moment. We will be using this forum only for travel updates should the need arise. We have technicians working on this issue."
We will have all the very latest on this story as we get it this morning.
Travel updates can be found on the Luas Twitter page.
