'Things will never be the same': Funeral details announced for teen killed in e-scooter tragedy

Funeral details have now been announced for a teenager remembered as a "kind soul" who tragically died after falling from an e-scooter in Co Carlow.

Janis Ghirghircic Ozols of Willow Park in Carlow was one of two teens who fell from an e-scooter while travelling on Carpenters Way in Carlow Town at around 8.30pm on Monday, June 29.

The 17-year-old suffered serious injuries and was taken to St Luke's Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

His friend, also in his late teens, was medically assessed at the scene and did not require immediate hospital treatment.

His heartbroken family announced his death on RIP.ie with his funeral Mass taking place on Monday at 11am in The Holy Family Church, Askea in Carlow.

His burial will take place afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery, Carlow.

“Much loved son of Liga and brothers Roman, Mark, Sandris, Rihards, Ruslan, sister Kora and step father Ingus,” the death notice said.

“Predeceased by his father Tudor, Janis will be sadly missed by his heartbroken mother, brothers, sister, step father, grandparents Valentina and Janis, aunties Santa, Angela, Angela, Natasha, Raia, Maria, Katerina, Nadja, uncle Ivan, beloved cousins and his very special friends Jayden, Marco, Olaf, Mathias and Jasmine. May Janis’s gentle soul rest in peace.”
