The Au Pair viewers share same comment during new Channel 5 drama
Channel 5's new drama debuted on Monday night, but some viewers were left unimpressed with the show
Brand new Channel 5 series The Au Pair kicked off its first episode but some viewers were quick to criticise the show. The series focuses on a successful family consisting of Zoe (Sally Bretton) and Chris (Kenny Doughty), who live in a picturesque countryside home with their two stepchildren, Amber and Noah.
The family's peaceful lives are turned upside down by the arrival of a new au pair, Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski).
The first episode of the Channel 5 drama aired at 9pm on Monday evening (March 10), with viewers watching new au pair Sandrine become obsessed with the family.
The Express reports it wasn't long before TV viewers began expressing their disappointment with the show's plot and direction.
One viewer wrote, "I was looking forward to this after the Graham Norton Show announced it at the weekend. But I don't think I can watch much more".
Another shared a lukewarm review, stating, "This is so bad and totally unbelievable.... and I'm absolutely loving it!!"
A third chimed in: "This feels like it might be an hour of my life I'll never get back... time to switch over?"
Some also felt sorry for renowned actor Sir David Suchet, with one saying, "Poor David Suchet. I hope he got a good wage for this rubbish."
Moreover, some eagle-eyed viewers picked up on the fact that the show was seemingly not filmed in England, as the production team claimed, but rather abroad.
The new series may be set in the picturesque landscapes of France and the Cotswolds, but it was actually filmed around an hour away from Dublin in Ireland. The Victorian beauty gracing the screen is none other than the genuine Lis na Carrig, nestled in Foxrock, Dublin's swanky suburb.
One observant fan remarked: "Is this going to be another Channel 5 show I watch and then wish I hadn't? I see they've done the usual thing of filming it abroad and trying to pass it off as England, despite it being obvious it isn't and just making things feel jarring."
A second viewer said: "Settled down to watch the new Channel 5 series The Au Pair tonight. It's set in the Cotswolds.
"I thought the village looked decidedly uncotswoldy. No Cotswold stone cottages were a dead giveaway.
"On closer inspection, it's filmed in Ireland. Ridiculous."
