Now His Dark Materials' production on the third run, based on The Amber Spyglass, has been confirmed and will kick off next spring in Cardiff
It's official – His Dark Materials WILL return for a third series on BBC1 to complete the trilogy of books by Phillip Pullman.
Viewers were wowed on Sunday when Lord Asriel and Roger Parslow staged comebacks in the closing scenes of the second run, filmed before the pandemic.
Now production on the third run, based on The Amber Spyglass, has been confirmed and will kick off next spring in Cardiff.
With more grown-up themes this time around, it will again star Dafne Keene as Lyra, Amir Wilson as Will, Ruth Wilson as Mrs Coulter, Simone Kirby as Mary Malone, Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala and James McAvoy as Lord Asriel.

Executive producer Jane Tranter said working on the HBO/BBC series had been a “personal career hightight.”
She said the final series would be eight episodes long, with scripts on six being written already.
“It’s just very, very exciting,” she said.
“Amber Spyglass is my favourite out of the three novels.”
In the plot, Lord Asriel’s war against religious tyranny continues as he uses characters from different worlds to fight with him, including angels.

Will searches for Lyra after she was captured by Mrs Coulter and, once reunited, they head to the Land of the Dead to find poor Roger.
The first two series have been requested over 30 million times on BBC iPlayer.
