Dr Hilary Jones has issued a severe warning about lifting lockdown too soon amid fears that there could be a "second peak".
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly as they celebrated VE Day on Good Morning Britain, the pair moved onto speculation as to what Prime Minister Boris Johnson would announce on Sunday.
Dr Hilary said: "The disparity between what different people are saying and making people think, oh it's nearly time to go back to work and do things to do.
"And we can't be. We're still seeing a large number of deaths, a large number of cases. The virus is still out there.

"We can't risk going back too soon and there being a second wave and then a second lockdown, which would be so demoralising and overwhelm the NHS - who are already tired.
Earlier, Dr Hilary paid a poignant tribute to the heroes of today and those 75 years ago as the country celebrates VE Day.
Hailing the today an "important day for everyone", he said: "VE Day. It's a day when everyone's feeling a bit more vulnerable themselves, feeling that their own life is threatened, to some extent, by this virus.
"We wouldn't have our lives and our liberty today without the sacrifices of the young 75+ years ago.

"Heroes then and heroes today on the frontline fighting the virus, I think it's very important today that we actually do celebrate what has been achieved."
Dancing, singing and partying in the street has been a traditional way to celebrate May 8th ever since Churchill declared it a public holiday 75 years ago.

However, under lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, doing so is not possible this year.
Yet there are other ways to celebrate the day, including a singalong of Dame Vera Lynn’s wartime classic, We’ll Meet Again - scheduled to take place just after 9pm, following the Queen’s special address to the nation.
The chorus will be led by 103-year-old Dame Vera Lynn herself from a window in her home in Sussex.
A two minute silence will be held at 11 am today, before the broadcast of Winston Churchill’s infamous victory speech which will be aired at 3pm.
