Remember Monday open up about unexpected link to iconic Eurovision winner
Remember Monday will be representing the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland
Remember Monday have spilled the beans on their surprising link to a former Eurovision champion.
The country pop trio, consisting of pals Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele, are set to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland.
The group, who are the first all-female band to fly the flag for Britain in 26 years, will be belting out their track, What The Hell Just Happened?
Their tune recounts the events of a wild night out, with a nod to the pop genre, while also drawing inspiration from 80s pop and rock vibes, reports the Express.
In the run-up to their performance at the upcoming grand final next weekend, Remember Monday caught up with Graham Norton during a BBC One special on Friday (May 9).
During their chat, the trio shared the story behind their song and revealed their unexpected connection to a past Eurovision victor.
"We wrote the song with Billen Ted [Tom Hollings and Sam Brennan], who also produced it, and then Thomas Stengaard and Julie Aagaard, who are kind of Eurovision royalty," Lauren divulged.
"They've had a lot of success with their songs. Thomas has won it with Denmark, so we felt in really safe hands with them."
Thomas is famed for penning Denmark's 2013 Eurovision winner, Only Teardrops, performed by Emmelie de Forest.
On top of that, Billen Ted have lent their talents to big names like Little Mix, Anne Marie and MNEK.
Lauren continued: "We went into the writing room for nearly a month, and we were writing sometimes two or three songs a day to try and find the perfect fit."
Charlotte added: "We kind of just said, 'What would we feel or say after we've come off stage from doing Eurovision?' That was the original thought process," whilst Lauren pointed out: "That's where the title came from."
Elsewhere, Holly mentioned that their "biggest competition" came from Sweden's act. She spoke about Finnish trio KAJ, who will be on the Eurovision stage with their tune, Bara bada bastu, which has already stolen the hearts of Eurovision fans.
Holly explained: "They're a band, they are the highest on the odds by miles. They're funny, their song is great, so I think it's probably them."
The Eurovision Grand Final will air on Saturday, May 17 at 8pm on BBC One and When Graham Met Remember Monday is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer
