Met Éireann issues 24-hour Status Yellow rain warning for six counties
A Status Yellow Rain warning will come into effect for six counties on Wednesday
Met Éireann have issued a 24-hour weather warning for six counties with "significant rainfall" forecast.
The Status Yellow rain warning will come into effect for Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo at 6pm on Wednesday, and will last until 6pm on Thursday evening.
Issuing the alert, forecasters at Met Éireann warned there would be "significant rainfall accumulations from heavy showers and longer spells of rain" adding that "isolated thunderstorms" were also possible.
Some potential impacts from the adverse weather include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions over the 24 hours.
Overall, Met Éireann forecasters have said the coming days will be unsettled with wet and rather windy spells.
Wednesday will see sunshine and showers following from the west and extending to all areas this afternoon. Some will be heavy or prolonged further west with a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 16C to 21C with mostly moderate to fresh southwest winds.
Wednesday night will bring further scattered heavy showers, again merging to longer spells of thundery rain across Atlantic counties with spot flooding.
Drier and clearer further east though a few showers will arrive later on. Lowest temperatures of 10C to 13C in mostly moderate southwest winds, stronger along Atlantic fringes.
Tomorrow, Thursday, low pressure will move in across the country, bringing blustery southwesterly winds and frequent showers, merging to longer spells of rain with local lightning and spot flooding, especially across northwest counties.
Some sunny spells across southeast counties where it could stay dry. A little cooler too with highest temperatures of 15C to 20C.
