Conor McGregor remains one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts—and one of its wealthiest athletes.

Ahead of his long-awaited UFC return against Max Holloway at UFC 329, the former two-division champion is back in the spotlight following several years away from the Octagon that included a devastating leg injury, an anti-doping suspension and ongoing legal battles. In November 2024, an Irish civil jury found McGregor liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand in a 2018 incident, ordering him to pay damages. McGregor has consistently denied the allegation, maintained the encounter was consensual and unsuccessfully appealed the verdict in 2025.

How Much Does Conor McGregor Pay in Damages?

In November 2024, an Irish civil jury found McGregor liable for sexually assaulting Hand over an incident that took place at a Dublin hotel in December 2018. The jury awarded Hand €248,603.60 (about €250,000) in damages, and McGregor was later ordered to pay approximately €1.3 million in legal costs. Prosecutors had previously declined to pursue criminal charges, citing insufficient evidence to meet the criminal standard of proof.

Hand filed the civil lawsuit in 2021, alleging that McGregor sexually assaulted her after a company Christmas party, leaving her with extensive bruising and post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor testified that he never forced Hand to do anything against her will and insisted the allegations were fabricated after they had consensual sex. His lawyer referred to Hand as a “gold digger,” alleging she made the claims for financial gain.

McGregor appealed the civil verdict, but in July 2025, Ireland’s Court of Appeal unanimously rejected all grounds of his appeal, leaving the damages award and costs order in place. He has continued to deny the allegations.
