Pete Buttigieg, the former U.S. Transportation of Secretary and Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is one of the most prominent Democratic politicians. Still, his most important job in life is being a dad to his children. After adopting his kids with husband Chasten Buttigieg in 2021, Pete focused on raising them.
Later that year, the politician gushed about how “wonderful” it was raising kids during an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
“It’s everything people tell you to expect and more,” he said at the time. “I think the biggest thing that’s surprised me is just how much joy there is even sometimes in the hard parts. … Don’t get me wrong, it’s the most demanding thing I think I’ve ever done, that Chasten and I have ever taken on. It’s just amazing.”
Unfortunately, nearly five years later, Pete had to navigate a brief yet frightening ordeal when he became the victim of a swatting call to Child Protective Services (CPS). He described the incident in a lengthy Substack post, noting that the investigation found no concerns regarding him or his children.
“An anonymous caller had contacted CPS. The caller said that he had spoken to a woman who claimed to have met me at a conference several years ago in Alabama, where she said I told her that I had committed unspeakable violent crimes, and the caller believed my children were still at risk,” Pete explained. “We’re used to nasty, hateful, and sometimes violent things being said about us and even about our family. But this is the first time someone managed to invade our lives like this – and drag our children into it.”
