Last year we couldn't stop talking about the braided faux undercut hairstyle, and now it's getting a Summer-friendly makeover. This part ponytail, part pompadour, part undercut look is perfect for second-day hair. Plus, all your strands are up off the neck, making it ideal for humid days. We've spotted a similar look on celebrities like Iggy Azalea and Selena Gomez, but Mario Russo of Salon Mario Russo broke down the look step by step. Re-create it at home with his tips below. Step 1
Curl the full head of hair with a large-barrel iron. If you want your ponytail to have loose waves, you can also blow-dry hair using an extralarge round brush. Source: Salon Mario Russo
Step 2
Tease hair at the crown, making sure to only push hair down once or twice. This step creates a subtle pompadour, but you can also add a stuffing piece to get Iggy's height. Source: Salon Mario Russo
Step 3
Create one to three cornrows on the side of the head, and secure with clear elastic bands at the ends. Source: Salon Mario Russo
Step 4
Using a hair tie, gather hair and braids into a ponytail at the crown. Source: Salon Mario Russo
Step 5
Using a one-inch section of hair from the bottom of the pony, hide the elastic. Source: Salon Mario Russo
Step 6
Bobby pins can help the hair stay put; just make sure to find bobbies in your hair color. Source: Salon Mario Russo
Step 7
Create a small pompadour in front using the rattail end of a small comb. Finish the ponytail with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($42). Source: Salon Mario Russo
