Starting on Nov. 15, everyone is truly welcome on Tinder — no matter how they identify themselves. Whereas the dating app formerly only gave users the ability to present themselves as "male" or "female," the new updates will allow people to add any term that best describes their true identity.

This major move toward inclusivity comes after the app received heat for banning transgender users last year. "We haven't had the right tools to serve our diverse community in the past, but that changes today," a Tinder blog post explained.

To add additional details about their gender, users must simply tap the "I Am" button and select "More," which provides the option to type in whatever word describes one's gender best. In addition, the update gives people the opportunity to display gender on their profile.

Users are also able to select which gender they would like to appear to.

In addition, anyone can control which gender they come across while swiping away.
