Laughing online has a totally new meaning after a Facebook study looked at how users used different forms of "e-laughter." Most people these days tend to use "haha" or an emoji — and if you use "lol," you're basically an oldie who doesn't even know how to speak like the youth do. You can find the full findings of what Facebook discovered here, but only after you spend some time with our odes to different forms of laughter and find out what they actually mean.

Haha
The key thing to know here is when to use "haha" versus "hahahaha". After all, you wouldn't use all those excessive hahas on a joke you don't actually enjoy, right?

Emoji
Using emoji means you're a youngin' — a cool teen or young adult who doesn't know how else to communicate other than through using emoji. You know that different emoji, like the tears of joy one, mean different levels of laughter. And yes, it takes at least two minutes to decide which is the right one.

LOL
If you're typing LOL, you probably only do so when you literally meant you are laughing out loud — aka, you are above the age of 35. Or you use it as a conversation killer, the same way you'd use "K."

LMFAO
Are you the band that sings "Shots?" Then please don't use LMFAO (laughing my f*cking ass off) — it's best left in the world of AIM messenger.

Hehe
Writing "hehe" means you either said something dirty or are trying to imply something dirty. You most definitely use this after asking someone to Netflix and chill.

ROFL
First off, no one actually rolled on the floor laughing when they'd write this, so it was all lies! ROFL definitely belongs in the closet of past memories we don't want to remember.
