Watch This Right Now: NASA's Jaw-Dropping Time-Lapse of the Sun

Excuse us while we pick our jaws up off the floor. Yesterday, NASA released an incredibly striking video of a five-year time-lapse of the sun. It's to commemorate the fact that NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory — which provides detailed images of the Earth-facing side of the sun — has been in space for five years.

"Capturing an image almost once per second, SDO has provided an unprecedentedly clear picture of how massive explosions on the sun grow and erupt ever since its launch in 2010," NASA wrote in a Facebook post. "Different colors represent different wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light, ultraviolet light, and visible light, which in turn correspond to solar material at different temperatures."

One look at the intense colors, details, and movements, and you'll feel like you're watching a high-budget movie — but it's all real and it's all so wonderful.
